Google and Amazon clash over YouTube access

On Tuesday, YouTube stopped working on Amazon’s Echo Show, a voice-controlled assistant with a screen that can display information and videos.

Both companies issued statements criticising one another. Amazon said Google had blocked YouTube on Echo Show “without explanation”.

Google said the Echo Show delivered a “broken user experience”.

While the Echo Show could play videos from YouTube, it did not provide all of YouTube’s functions such as the ability to subscribe to channels or serve up video recommendations.

Google said in a statement: “Amazon’s implementation of YouTube on the Echo Show violates our terms of service, creating a broken user experience. We hope to be able to reach an agreement and resolve these issues soon.

“We’ve been in negotiations with Amazon for a long time, working towards an agreement that provides great experiences for customers on both platforms.”

‘Hurts our customers’

However, Amazon said in its statement: “Google has chosen to no longer make YouTube available on Echo Show, without explanation and without notification to customers.

“There is no technical reason for that decision, which is disappointing and hurts both of our customers.”

It is not the first time those tech giants have removed rival products from their platforms.

In 2013, Google ordered Microsoft to remove its unofficial home-made YouTube app from the Windows Phone store, despite not providing an official app.

It said Microsoft’s app violated its terms of service by letting people download videos and hiding advertisements.

In 2016, Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos said the retail giant had stopped selling the Apple TV video-streaming box because the two companies had not agreed “acceptable business terms” to include Amazon’s Prime Video service on the device.

Both Amazon and Google are currently developing rival voice-controlled smart home speakers, which can act as a gateway to lucrative services.

“Both companies are coming into conflict because they are competing for the same new growth opportunities – in this case, around the smart home,” said Ian Fogg, an analyst at the IHS Markit consultancy.

macOS Sierra and Later Not Listed in Mac App Store Purchased Tab, Updates Not Tied to Apple ID

After the release of macOS High Sierra, Mac users have discovered that Apple is no longer listing previous operating system updates in a user’s Purchased tab in the Mac App Store.

up in the Purchased list, suggesting the updates are no longer tied to an Apple ID account. Previous Mac software updates were linked to an Apple ID account and updating required an Apple ID and password, something that could be a hassle when a Mac changed ownership.

An Apple support document on reinstalling apps confirms that the change to remove macOS Sierra and High Sierra from the Purchased tab was intentional.

“macOS Sierra or later doesn’t appear in the Purchased tab,” reads the document.

In the case of macOS Sierra, the change means that there’s no way for Mac users to download macOS Sierra should they want to downgrade from High Sierra for some reason.

OS X El Capitan, OS X Yosemite, OS X Mavericks, and earlier updates are all tied to a user account and listed in the Mac App Store. Apple has also made a link to the OS X El Capitan update available through a support document, but no similar support document is available for macOS Sierra.

Apple is releasing its new High Sierra operating system for Mac on Tuesday 10.a.m Jakarta time

Apple is rolling out its free new High Sierra operating system (OS) for Mac on Monday( 6pmGMT).

When High Sierra goes live, it will be available to download by clicking the Apple logo in the top left corner of the screen and then selecting About This Mac > Software Update… .

The new macOS High Sierra follows on from macOS Sierra and there are a number of updates to look out for.

“New technologies at the heart of the system make your Mac more reliable, capable and responsive – and lay the foundation for future innovations,” Apple writes on its website. “macOS High Sierra also refines the features and apps you use every day. It’s macOS at its highest level yet.”

The vast majority of improvements will be “under the hood” as opposed to on the screen itself. Apple puts it like this: “macOS High Sierra introduces new core technologies that improve the most important functions of your Mac. From re-architecting how it stores your data to improving the efficiency of video streaming to unleashing the full power of your graphics processor, it’s all central to today’s Mac experience.”

MacOS High Sierra includes a few key updates:

    • The Safari web browser will include a new service called “Autoplay Blocking,” which stops media from autoplaying across the internet. There is also a new feature that stops ads from tracking you around the internet. The Photos app will include improved organization and search. The updated app will recognize more faces, and will include more filtration and categorisation updates. Edits on Apple Photos will also seamlessly transition to other photo editing applications, like Photoshop. The core file system of macOS is getting an overhaul to make it faster than ever before. It will be quicker and easier to back up files or move them around, which means fewer crashes all around. The new operating system will also include support for high-end virtual reality. Apple previously showed off its ability to use the HTC Vive headset, though it doesn’t support the Oculus Rift of Oculus SDK. The new video technology in High Sierra called HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding, also known as H.265) means “videos stream better and take up less space on your Mac, while preserving the same visual quality.”

The roll out of macOS High Sierra comes less than a week after Apple released its iOS 11 mobile operating system for iPhone and iPad.

The macOS High Sierra update should be available for download from 6pm (GMT) on Monday.

Should I upgrade my Mac to new macOs (macOS High Sierra)

The new version of Apple Operating System called macOS High Sierra’ve released this morning. You could upgrade to new version at least you need to understand the new feature come out with  latest operating system of Mac

Below is the compatible Mac that can upgrade to the latest version macOs High Sierra

  1. Mac Pro (Mid 2010 or higher)
  2. iMac ( late 2009 or higher)
  3. Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or higher
  4. MacBook Pro (Mid 2010 or higher)
  5. MacBook (late 2009 or higher)
  6. MacBook Air (late 2010 or higher)

If your Mac model is lower than the listed product above, it isn’t compatible with the new operating system.

Even if your Mac is on the compatible list above, that doesn’t mean you can take the advantage of all the new in macOS High Sierra.

In order to take all the new feature in macOS High Sierra, you should have the following Mac model:

Safe for Tourists : Bali despite risk of Mount Agung volcano erupting

Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency has urged tourists to continue visiting Bali, saying the resort island is safe except for the area around Mount Agung, a volcano in eastern Indonesia that could erupt at any time.

Three hundred tremors were recorded in the vicinity of the volcano between midnight and 6am on Sunday and white smoke was detected 200 metres above the crater.

 

A radius of nine kilometres and 12 kilometres around the mountain was considered dangerous but the resort island was otherwise safe.

Mount Agung is 71 kilometres from the tourist hot spot of Kuta.

Food is prepared at an evacuee centre at Klungkung sport centre.

Flights in and out of Bali’s international airport remain normal with 50,000 to 60,000 travellers in and out of the island every day says Ngurah Rai airport general manager Yanus Suprayogi.

The director general of air transport, Agus Santoso said even if the volcano erupted  with lava it would not affect aviation unless there was also volcanic ash.

Nine alternative airports outside of Bali had been prepared for diverted flights if volcanic ash was detected.

Mr Santoso said 300 buses would  be available to transport affected travellers to ferry ports and bus stations so they could leave Bali if flights were affected.

“Bali tourism is safe. Do not spread misleading news that Bali is not safe because Mount Agung is on the highest alert status. Please come and visit Bali,” Mr Sutopo tweeted.

Rich Dad and Poor Dad

The book is largely based on Kiyosaki’s childhood upbringing and education in Hawaii. It highlights the different attitudes toward money, work, and life of two men (i.e. his titular “rich dad” and “poor dad”), and how they, in turn, influenced key decisions in Kiyosaki’s life. Bali Indonesia: travel warning issued as volcano threatens to erupt

Holiday plans are in limbo for thousands of Australians after the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade issued a new travel warning for Bali because of fears of a volcano eruption on the popular tourist island.

Indonesian authorities have raised the alert level for the Mount Agung volcano to the highest classification, meaning an eruption could be imminent.

On Saturday, the Indonesian Department of Meteorology, Climate, and Geophysics said there had been five small eruptions detected coming from the mountain, and an ash column as high as 1000 meters had been observed.

There had been a “tremendous increase” in volcano activity.

They said locals and tourists should be 12 kilometers away from the crater in some areas.

A spokesman for Jetstar said all flights to Bali were going ahead as scheduled, but the airline was monitoring the situation.

Jetstar flies direct to Bali about 60 times a week, with room for more than 10,000 passengers.

Qantas, which flies to Bali once a week, said its meteorologists were monitoring activity but services were still going ahead as scheduled.

School holidays are underway in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia and the ACT, and the number of travelers visiting the island usually booms during this period.

Holidays start next week for schools in South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.

About 1.2 million Australians visited Indonesia in 2016, second only to New Zealand as Australia’s favorite destination.

Mount Agung is in the Karangasem Regency in East Bali, about 75 kilometers from the tourist hub of Kuta.

Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade told travelers to reconfirm their plans with airlines but said the overall level of advice had not changed.

“Local authorities have temporarily suspended all outdoor activities such as hiking and camping activities in proximity to the crater,” the department said.

“Monitor local media reports and follow the instructions of local authorities. An eruption of Mount Agung could impact air travel in the region. Contact your airline or tour operator to confirm travel plans.”

Hundreds of small tremors have rattled the mountain this week, causing almost 10,000 people to leave their homes as of Friday over fears of a volcanic eruption.

“Tremors happen very often, so we are afraid and I have taken all my family members to the refugee shelter,” villager I Wayan Suwarjana told AFP.

National disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho advised people to stay calm and not to believe rumors.

The airport in Bali’s capital, Denpasar, a top holiday destination that attracts millions of foreign tourists every year, has not been affected but its management is watching the situation closely.
